Time is life, and he who defines time, defines life.
In one of my recent posts, I registered my desire to embark on a research to unpack the difference between the Biblical system of divination (Ephod, Urim and Thummim), and the Yoruba system of divination (Ifa, Opele & Ikin).
My hypothesis is that Europeans deliberately instituted a parrallel order of divination to counteract the Sacred Afrikan order.
Here is a link to the said post →Did Europeans alter the divine order?
I continue to ponder on the extent to which the European conquest and oppression of Afrika has destroyed and continue to undermine the spirituality of the oppressed peoples of Afrika, and it has become increasingly apparent to me that the impact is deeper than I previously thought.
Yes, the rabbit hole runs very deep!
Time is one of the most important paradigms of human existence.
The idea that there are 24 hours in a day is today considered to be a universal fact but the truth is that, this idea is not exactly incontestable. The very idea that there are 60 seconds in a minute; 60 minutes in a hour; and 24 hours in a day must be understood. I dare you to investigate the origin of these ideas, and make up your mind accordingly.
I would hope at least that you are open minded to question the veracity of this engineered reality.
Now, if we consider a "90 seconds per minute" time model, there would be 16 hours in a day which would align with the 16 Odus of the Sacred Yoruba IFA Corpus.
I am of the opinion that there is a deep reason we are told there are 60 seconds in a minute.
He who controls time, controls life, and everything around it.
I am not insisting that it has to be 90 seconds per minute; 90 minutes per hour; and 16 hours in a day just to rebel or go against the grain, but I have an acute sense of awareness that, he who controls time, controls life, and everything around it.
By my calculation, the following would be logical for a Yoruba calendar:
90 seconds = 1 minute
90 minutes = 1 hour
16 hours = 1 day
4 days = 1 week
28 days (7 weeks) = 1 month
256 days (64 weeks, 9 months) = 1 year
The following points are important to note to understand the above:
It does not make sense that a child is in the womb for nine months but we celebrate birthday every 12 months.
There are three seasons (Rainy, Dry and Harmattan) in Yorubaland. This in and of itself aligns with the idea of nine months. There is simply no logical reason why we should continue to use the four seasons model.
If IFA is the divine order that contains the universal system, it should be ideal that we can rely on it to order our lives (16 major Odus, and 256 mathematical outcomes).
The heavenly luminaries in the celestial space (Sun, Moon & Stars) should be our guide in terms of defining times and seasons. If this is true, the cycle of the moon is 28 days which aligns with the above model.
The seven day week cycle is a recent development. The Yoruba proposes a 4 day week cycle which has perfect alignment with the cycle of moon. When understood, the three heavenly luminaries are celestial timepieces that we should use to determine time.
The greatest challenge I have encountered so far, is how to determine the start of a new year. I believe this is the key to achieving the re-alignment with the divine order of time.
Many people talk about political and economic independence but say little or nothing about spiritual independence. See, we will not be truly free until we re-align back to the divine order of timing.
I propose that, Afrikans need to revisit the concept of time; maybe (just maybe), this is one of the keys to our freedom as a people?
By the awesomeness of reasoning that emanates out of our defense mechanisms, which is our brain, I concur and now have a better understanding. Many are in dormancy and remain in stagnancy.
He who knows do, and he who doesn't know teaches.
Do you mean to say you have less understanding of JUNE 1-3 being the start of a new year in the UFE OODAYE calendar? Try JUNE which is OKUDU.
